Windulla Beach

Crazy times, call for crazy dances!!!

We headed on to Scotts bay (just out of Fowlers) , but it was full of people (which was a little disappointing) so we moved on past Mexican Hat. This is a favorite camping spots for the kids from Yalata that I work with, and its easy to see why.

We decided to move on and (try) find Windulla beach. We came across it, by chance, years back on our first trip up this way. It is marked by a big windmill, and when we first spotted it there was a warmish campfire and the bones of a huge Mulloway fish. We drove on and tried to remember what path we took, as there are many uncharted paths thru this land and dunes. Nick had been in search of this beach once before, when we came up this way, again, with Eleanore and Luke a few years back. We couldn't be bothered doing much more driving so we decided to find a spot and hang up our washing (handwashed in the caravan park) and call it a day.

We came across the bunch of surfers that we had met at the caravan park, and thought they were surfing a spectacular coastline (they called it bells beach) and decided to chill out there. I needed to sort through some of the food we had been sent away with, and when i took it out of the Engel it covered all the bench space we had. The stars were amazing this night, and we had a full moon too!

We spent the morning watching the surfers( one fella had a red wetsuit on and i really do think surfers should get 'em, as he was the most easily spotted out of the lot) and when we looked around we found that we were surrounded by surfers, that just appeared when the sun came up, as we were alone overnight.

After a few hours of searching (and back tracking) we came across it!!! The windmill was all broken but the well still had water in it, needless to say 'twas a bit dodgy and nick wouldn't let me anywhere near it, incase of a catastrophe.

Once we set up ( 10 mins max) Nick went down to check out the beach (as we were camped behind the dunes) and I thought I'd get back to mother nature, and just as I was a bloody car with surfer boys drove past!!! It was the only car we (I) saw for the 4 days we were there!!!

Anyways after an Avro of relaxing(and sequence)we went for a beach walk, was a lovely little bay but the sand was all soft and sinky. So we are pushing on, enjoying the view, walking with the girlies and guess who spots a fishing rod?? Yes Mrs Eagle Eyes spots a rod, that's been washed up in the surf. Its a surf rod(?) , kind of looks like the one that Nick already has (but I'm not a fisherwoman so I wouldn't really know) So Score for Nick and, as its his birthday in a couple of days (he already has his present @ Adelaide) its like another present from me (hehehe) Tally is going up as I'm landing all the good shit. We practiced our Golf (with the equally impressive find) in amongst the dunes, were both pretty crap, (worried about keeping other players lined up on the golf course when we do sneak on and play the Nullarbor links) and walked to the top one night to watch the sun set.

We had some great weather while we were camped among the dunes. It was soo hot one day that Delta had to lie on her back to get to sleep for an arvo nap.

Then we had a bit of a crappy weather (indoor activities) and decided to hand make mothers day cards. Well that was interesting (it was like primary school again) We were limited in what coloured pens we had and found a couple of sharpies (permanent textas) so we got creative( and a bit high of texta fumes)!!! See whats in the mail mum's hopefully they arrive in time,a nd you can have a bit of a laugh.

We thought it was time to roll on, so we slowly packed up, and set off!! First obstacle a sand dune, and after the crappy weather we pulled out and not a coupe of meters down the track we got bogged! Well there has to be a first time for everything (on this trip) (we have been bogged before) and these pictures don't really do it justice. We spent an hour digging (I had the little shitter shovel) and pushing and eventually we rolled out.

We were pretty spent so on our approach back we noticed that no-one was at Scotts bay so decided to camp there the night. Aware there was a really big storm cloud overhead we got organised early (cooking and prepping to x the boarder) had a few more games of sequence then went inside for an early one. Was the first time we were in mobile range for a few days so all these SMS came tumbling in,(when the satellite decided to pass overhead) so to respond (old technology phone, wont re-send) I  had to stand a good 5 min walk away in the pitch black with the wind whipping. After the communications had ceased we snuggled up and watched a movie (laptop) and I remember having a difficult time getting to sleep. I did ask nick, what would happen if lightning struck our van, but was re-assured as he wasn't too concerned and said we were insulated (therefore OK) because we had rubber ( our tyre's) touching the ground.

Well, we woke up to an almighty thunder/ lightening display, just before dawn (happy birthday Nick). Sahara was cowering in the front foot well, so with some enticing she had cuddles on the bed with us, Delta joined in and we all lay in bed listening to the show. I wish i thought to bring the digital camera inside as we could have "captured" it well; with the van shaking with the wind, the light, looking like a twisted form of daylight, coming through the windows, with the lightning, and the deafening noise of the thunder. Was a powerful experience.

Off into Fowler's bay to drop off our rubbish, post the "old" blog, post our mothers day cards, and a few postcards then hit the road. The rain was dribbling down then it was sunny again, then rain?

Even big dogs can sit on laps and get to stick there heads out the window, see proof below....
